Clear ice vs regular ice
The cloudy patch in an ice cube is trapped air.
The white haze in the middle of a regular ice cube is air and dissolved minerals that were trapped as the water froze.
How clear ice happens
If water keeps moving while it freezes, or freezes slowly from one direction, the bubbles get pushed out of the way. The ice grows layer by layer, denser and clearer.
Two kinds of ice, two jobs
- Clear ice: fewer bubbles and a glassy look, for guests, cocktails and photos.
- Regular ice: faster to make, for everyday volume like iced water and juice.
The YH515 and YH22 both switch between clear and regular modes. Filtered drinking water gives even clearer ice.
